You may have seen recent news about a new medication, tirzepatide (brand name Mounjaro), being made available in primary care to support people living with obesity.
Unfortunately, Badgerswood and Forest Surgery is not able to prescribe this at this time.
Locally, NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight (ICB) are working hard to get the service up and running, but it’s not expected to launch until Autumn 2025. For now, we kindly ask that you don’t contact the surgery about Mounjaro for weight loss, as we’re not currently in a position to offer assessments or prescriptions.
The treatment will only be available to those meeting strict eligibility criteria set nationally. This includes having a BMI of 40 or above, along with at least four of the following health conditions:
- Type 2 Diabetes
- High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
- Heart Disease
- Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
- Abnormal Cholesterol Levels (Dyslipidaemia)
Hampshire and Isle of White, Integrated Care Board, have full details on their website, via this link: https://www.hantsiow.icb.nhs.uk/weight-loss-support.
We’ll share further updates as soon as more information becomes available.
